Legal! Muhammad Musa'ad Appointed as Acting Governor of Southwest Papua

Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian inaugurated a new province, namely Southwest Papua Province. On the same occasion, Tito appointed Muhammad Musa'ad as Acting Governor of Southwest Papua.

The inauguration was held in the Sasana Bhakti Praja room, Building C, 3rd floor, Ministry of Home Affairs Head Office, Jl. Medan Merdeka Utara No.7, Central Jakarta, Friday (9/12). Tito and Musa'ad were called on stage for the inauguration.

"Are you willing to take an oath in Islam?" Tito asked Musa'ad.
 
"Yes," replied Musa'ad.

Then, Tito took the oath of office which was followed by Musa'ad.
 
"By Allah, I swear that I will fulfill my obligations as Acting Governor of Southwest Papua as well as possible and in the fairest way to uphold the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and carry out all its laws and regulations as strictly as possible and be devoted to the people of the archipelago and the nation," said Musa'ad.

Next, there was the installation of epaulettes and the pinning of position marks on Musa'ad's shoulders and the handing over of President Jokowi's decree. Subsequently Tito appointed Musa'ad.

"Today, Friday, December 9 2022, I am the Minister of Home Affairs on behalf of the President of the Republic of Indonesia by officially inaugurating Brother Muhammad Musa'ad as Acting Governor of Southwest Papua based on Republic of Indonesia Decree Number 122/P dated December 9 2022 concerning the appointment of Acting Governor Southwest Papua. I believe that you will carry out your duties as well as possible in accordance with the responsibilities given on behalf of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian, thank you," said Tito.

Prior to being appointed as the Acting Governor of Southwest Papua, Musa'ad served as Assistant for Development and People's Welfare (Kesra) Regional Secretary of Papua Province.

It is known, Southwest Papua Province has officially been ratified by law. This new province in Papua was ratified in a DPR RI plenary meeting on Thursday, 17 November 2022. The DPR RI stated that the Southwest Papua Province Bill had now become law.
 
The area coverage and boundaries of the Southwest Papua Province have been regulated as in the Bill on the Expansion of Southwest Papua which later became a law. The Province of Southwest Papua with the capital city in Sorong City covers six regions and has the following area boundaries.

The area coverage of Southwest Papua Province is:

-Sorong District
-South Sorong Regency
-Raja Ampat Regency
- Tambrauw Regency
- Maybrat Regency
- Sorong city (capital city)

With the ratification of the Southwest Papua Province, the number of new provinces in Papua has also increased and the total number of provinces throughout Indonesia has increased to 38 provinces.
