Violence in Papua Should Be Stopped Ahead of Christmas

The atmosphere in Papua was once again tense for the past few days. Two TNI members died after firefighting with an armed criminal group (KKB) in Intan Jaya, Papua. Benny Susetyo, a Catholic cleric told reporters, in the Christmas peace this year, he hoped all forms of violence in Papua could be stopped immediately. Especially these days Christians are getting ready to celebrate Christmas.

"Give them peace, peace in celebrating Christmas," said Benny, Monday (12/23).

He stressed that the state is committed to protecting all citizens. The state even guarantees that every citizen carries out the mandate of Article 29 of the 1945 Constitution.
The man who is familiarly called Father Benny considers the importance of dialogue between the authorities and the local government and the community. So it is hoped that there is an assumption that the presence of security forces does not pose a threat.

"I believe that there must be a way to approach it, so we hope that the regional government, the province and the apparatus and also traditional leaders, cultural leaders, religious leaders meet to provide certainty, guarantee to the community a sense of security and peace," said the member Pancasila Ideology Development Board (BPIP).
