Members of Commission I Agree OPM Entered International terrorist list

House of Representatives Commission I member Dave Laksono agreed with Hendropriyono's statement asking the Free Papua Organization (OPM) to be included in the list of international terrorists.

"I personally OPM has fulfilled the foundation to declare them international terrorists especially they are supported by foreign NGOs and organizations proven many of their activities can help from foreign countries," Dave told reporters on Monday (12/30/2019) then.

According to Dave, the OPM has carried out murders and robbed the public. Therefore OPM should be included in the list of international terrorists, they declared oppressed, violations of human rights even though killing and robbing people is OPM.

Meanwhile, member of the House of Representatives Commission I F-PDIP Charles Honoris said the process of including OPM as an international terrorist was not easy. Moreover, the country which proposes must have OPM evidence as an international terrorist.

"The proposing country must provide comprehensive evidence that the organization does not merely have a different agenda than the proposing country, but does indeed carry out acts of terror and have an international network. In reality the process is not easy. Turkey, for example, has not succeeded in including the PKK separatist organization (Kurdistan Workers' Party) as a terrorist organization on the UN list, he said.

To deal with the issue of Papua in the international world, the government must focus on increasing efforts to ‘better public diplomacy’. The international community must be able to be given a better understanding of conditions in Papua.

"On the other hand, the government can also make OPM included in the list of terrorist organizations issued by friendly countries. In my opinion this will be easier and no less effective in limiting the scope of OPM, "continued Charles.
