Residents of three remote Mimika districts have access to internet services

Residents who live in three districts (sub-districts) in the inland and coastal areas of Mimika Regency, Papua Province, can now enjoy internet services, smart phones, WhatsApp and Facebook, after the VSAT network facilities were built in the region.

.
"In the context of the 100-day program of the Regent-Deputy Regent Mimika (Eltinus Omaleng-Johannes Rettob pair) actually four districts have been installed VSAT. Until now only three districts have operated, while one other district, namely Jila, until now has not "It is operational because it is still in the stage of repair. Hopefully in the near future VSAT in Jila can also be operated," said Maria.
.
Maria said that the installation of internet networks in a number of remote districts worked together with PT Aplikasi Nusa Lintas Arta. The company is also entrusted to install and operate command center facilities at the Mimika Regency Government Headquarters.
.
The installation of VSAT networks in the four inland and coastal districts of Mimika has been carried out since December 2019. Some have been operating since December and some have only begun operating since January.
.
Maria said the existence of internet facilities through the VSAT network was welcomed positively by the local community, even though the network's coverage was only around the district capital office.
.
"The community is very happy because they can already communicate with families in Timika. This facility is also to help government officials, there may be important things in their area to directly communicate with the regent and deputy regent," he said.
.
Residents who want to communicate with their families or relatives in Timika can go to each district capital office to take advantage of the VSAT network for free.
.
"In each of our districts, for the two network strengths, there is for the general public not to use passwords, while for the government must use passwords," Maria said.
.
As for several other districts that have not been served by internet facilities such as in Amar, Mimika Tengah Tengah and Mimika Timur Timur, Diskominfo Mimika plans to install Based Trasceiver Station (BTS) facilities in collaboration with PT Telkomsel.
.
"We plan that next year there will be three BTS to be built, namely in Amar for the West Mimika region, Manasari for the eastern Mimika region and Aroanop for the Mimika mountainous region. For Aroanop we actually propose the construction of BTS this year, but are constrained by the budget because everything is focused on support the implementation of Papua's PON XX, "said Maria.
.
Several capital cities of the Mimika coastal district that have been able to access internet and telephone facilities through the provision of BTS facilities are Atuka, the capital city of Central Mimika District and Kokonao, the capital of the West Mimika District.
