The Government Accelerates the Bintuni Project

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the development of the Industrial Estate in Bintuni Bay was being accelerated so that Papua could release its dependence on Freeport. The project is believed to be driving economic growth in Papua.
.
"Later we will see in the future there are several projects such as Bintuni and others. That is to balance income so that it does not depend entirely on Freeport, "he said.
.
Airlangga acknowledged that Papua's economic dependence on commodities is very high. Incidentally, in terms of commodities, PT Freeport Indonesia's mining business is the largest and has a significant impact on the Papuan economy.
.
In addition to reducing the dominance of the mining sector, what needs to be addressed to encourage Papuan economic growth apart from mining dependence is social, political, and security factors. At least the security factor in Papua is a consideration of businesses to invest.
 .
"In a way it's influence. At least it makes investors think twice about investing. Whether the investment will be safe or can return on investment or not, "he concluded.
