The management of PT Freeport Indonesia has restricted the travel of its employees to the mining area in the Tembagapura area, Mimika Regency, Papua to prevent the spread of the corona virus or COVID-19.

PT Freeport Indonesia Spokesperson Riza Pratama contacted from Timika said the restrictions on employee travel to Tembagapura and other Freeport projects in Mimika Regency were solely in the effort to protect employees and communities from the threat of exposure to COVID-19.

"Our priority is the safety and health of employees, families and surrounding communities where we operate. Employees who will enter the work area are required to quarantine themselves for 14 days," said Riza.

Riza, who also serves as Vice President of PT Freeport Indonesia in the field of Corporate Communitions, said that his staff continued to communicate with the Mimika Regency Government, the Provincial Government of Papua and the Central Government and the holding of mining companies in mitigating the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

It is planned that in the near future PT Freeport Indonesia will deliver health facilities and infrastructure assistance to the Mimika Regency Government to support the prevention, control and prevention of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the region.

Efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus in the work area of ​​PT Freeport Indonesia in the form of providing appeals and direction to employees and communities to avoid crowded places, limit meetings, screening at terminals and airports, improve cleanliness and disinfection, urge not to come to work if feeling sick, and so on.

Since Wednesday (25/3), PT Freeport has restricted travel to enter the mining area and restricted the movement of employees and others from Timika to Tembagapura.

In connection with that, PT Freeport has also temporarily suspended passenger flight services using Indonesian Airfast since Thursday (3/26).

Not only that, since Thursday (3/26) that morning PT Freeport also limited the bus trip for employees who will take a work break for several days in Timika as well as a helicopter flight service that transports passengers from Timika to Tembagapura.

According to Mimika COVID-19 Task Force Acceleration Task Force Team, until Saturday (28/3), the number of PDPs in Mimika has increased to four people. While the ODP is also as many as four people.
