Even though PON 2020 Papua will later be postponed, the House of Representatives Commission X encourages the completion of the sports arena (venue) construction. Commission X sendirin unanimously recommended the government to postpone the national sporting event until next year.

Rano Karno, member of the House of Representatives Commission X, doubts that the PON, which is planned to be held from October 20 to November 2, 2020, can run according to schedule. Covid-19 outbreak is considered to interfere with the readiness of athletes to compete in Papua.

"The remaining 6 months of PON 2020 which falls in October this year is the question whether it is realized in a situation like this? For me there is no other way we have to draw conclusions so that the Papuan PON is postponed rather than canceled, "said Rano in a virtual working meeting with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Tuesday (14/4).

However, Rano noted that the budget for venue completion and other facility readiness is still prioritized so that it can be completed even though the PON is postponed. "Then the existence of venue maintenance budget is considered. Don't delay but the venue is damaged, "he explained.

Deputy Chairperson of Commission X and Chairperson of PON XX Working Committee Abdul Fikri said the government must immediately decide on PON 2020 whether to postpone or not. This is so as to provide certainty to athletes and the people of Papua as the host.

"Have a good dialogue with the organizers, the Papua Provincial Government and the people of Papua to provide certainty. Olympic Games can be determined when the postponement. Please do not hang, "he explained.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Commission X Dede Yusuf requested that the Ministry of Youth and Sports pay attention to the fate of athletes if there is a delay in the PON 2020. He suggested that athletes continue to be given an honorarium with the athlete's record of conducting independent training at home or under supervision.

"Physical training activities or physical training units can be carried out at home in the training of trainers, so that their salaries continue to run. Because athletes rely a lot on sports activities, "he explained.
