Efforts to uphold the law of the joint TNI-Polri forces against the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Mimika Regency, Papua, paid off.
The team managed to capture the life of an advisor to the West Papua National Committee (KNPB) Timika Indius Sambom alias Ivan Sambom. He claimed to play the role of providing information (spies) to the National Liberation Army-Free Papua Organization (TPN OPM) group.
"Ivan Sambom besides being a TPN-OPM spy, he also serves as a security officer for PT Freeport Indonesia," Papua Police Chief Inspector General Paulus Waterpauw said at the Papua Regional Police Headquarters on Thursday (4/16/2020).
Ivan Sambom admitted several times giving information to the KKB leaders led by Lekagak Telenggen, Military Murib, Abubakar Kogoya, and Yunus Kobogau. Information related to shifting troops and reporting on the situation update of security forces.
"From the results of the investigation found the fact that Ivan Sambom also claimed to be the OPM TPN Logistics commander," said Paulus.
This is in accordance with Ivan's statement which stated that they provided housing and food ingredients to Abubakar Kogoya's group before taking action by the officers.
Abubakar Kogoya and his group were TPN-OPM members who were involved in the attack on Kuala Kencana, causing three PT Freeport Indonesia employees to be shot on 30 March 2020.
The three victims were a New Zealand citizen who died, and two other employees suffered serious injuries from gunfire. In addition, Ivan Sambom also often makes posts that support the independent Papua movement from the Unitary Republic of Indonesia. This is known from his Facebook account.
"Ivan Sambom also shared several posts that showed statements from Sebby Sambom and Veronica Koman calling for the Papuan independence movement from the Republic of Indonesia," Paulus explained.
Previously, the Armed Civil Criminal Group (KKSB) shot three PT Freeport Indonesia employees on Monday (3/30/2020) at 13.50 CET. According to the Head of the Papua Police Public Relations Commissioner AM Kamal, the incident occurred in Kuala Kencana Mimika Regency, Papua.
"There was a shooting carried out by KKSB on three employees of PT Freeport Indonesia, which resulted in one death and two injuries," Kamal said.
The alleged perpetrators are Armed Criminal Groups (KKB). Meanwhile, the post-shooting situation in the PT Freeport mining area, AM Kamal stressed that it was still in a safe and conducive condition.
After the incident, continued Kamal, Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Paulus Waterpau accompanied by the Chief of Amole and Kapol res Mimika, immediately checked the scene, precisely at MP 53-54.
Luckily there were no casualties due to the shooting, only material losses, namely one bus having broken glass and another bus having a shot at two points.
"The crime scene has already been done. We have also coordinated with PT Freeport Indonesia regarding the implementation of security in the mining area," Kamal added.
