The Paniai Regency Government of Papua Province has disbursed funds sourced from the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) assistance from the COVID-19 post for students from the area throughout Indonesia affected by the new type of virus.
"Starting Wednesday (6/17) we have already transferred assistance to the accounts of 615 students in various universities. Directly to the accounts of each student. All have passed validation at the Directorate General of Higher Education," Paniai Regent Meki Nawipa said when confirmed from Jayapura on Thursday.
So those who have sent the data but if there are students who cannot, it means that the student is not registered with the Directorate of Higher Education, so the Regional Government does not pay, "he said.
According to him, one student was given financial assistance of Rp2 million. It is hoped that this assistance can reduce the burden during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"For students who are actively studying but cannot contact the Social Service, and we will pay in the second wave," he said.
In addition, he said, his party also paid for a rented house for 19 students who were studying outside Papua.
"On Wednesday the rent or accommodation costs throughout Indonesia began to be distributed," he said.
