Indonesian President Joko Widodo Commits to Building Papua Comprehensively
Indonesian President Joko Widodo asked that the Papua and West Papua Special Autonomy policy be consulted with all components of society in Papua and West Papua. That was felt to be very important.
"We are talking to all traditional leaders, community leaders, religious leaders in Papua and West Papua so that they can formulate the best policy, which will make Papua and West Papua more advanced and prosperous," explained the Head of State.
This attention to Papua and West Papua was manifested by the Ministry of PPN / Bappenas through the holding of a recent Strategic Policy Discussion with the theme "Papua: Straightening the Past, Looking at the Future".
"The high commitment to Papua can be seen from the intensity of the President in the Papua region. Since serving in the first and second periods, Mr. President has visited the Land of Papua eleven times, "explained Deputy for Political, Legal, Security and Human Rights Presidential Chief of Staff Jaleswari Primowardani.
This commitment continued with the issuance of Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2017 concerning the Acceleration of Development for the Provinces of Papua and West Papua, where all ministries / institutions are tasked with formulating breakthrough steps to address development gaps in the two provinces and improve the welfare of the community.
"The Ministry of PPN / Bappenas as assigned to draw up the Presidential Instruction Plan No. 9 of 2017 has carried out its functions well and coordinated with the Presidential Staff Office, is expected to answer what is the President's commitment to the welfare of the people in Papua and West Papua provinces, "said Jaleswari.
