216 athletes from 26 sports will represent West Papua competing in the XX PON

West Papua KONI succeeded in delivering 216 athletes from 26 sports to compete in the XX PON Event in Papua Province in October 2021.

This achievement is quite increased when compared to pre-PON in 2015, of the 30 sports that participated, only 15 sports passed the pre-qualification to PON IXX in West Java.

In 2019, there were 34 sports that participated in the pre-qualification, 26 sports that qualified. The presentation, as many as 84.47 percent of sports that passed, compared to 2015, only 73.33 percent, so an increase of around 11.14 percent.

The head of the West Papua KONI, Daud Indouw, asked Cabor and coaches to prepare athletes for PON.

"Towards the Treaning Center, we have the same responsibility, KONI prepares the schedule, as well as sports and trainers to prepare training materials," said Daud Indouw after the Training Center Preparation was held at one of the hotels in Manokwari.

Furthermore, Daud criticized several sports which were deemed necessary to do the exercises well.

I saw athletes training double, day training in the field, night training in the Dark. Don't make West Papua lose, and we become victims of all, because PON activities are financed by APBD money, public money, so we must have a responsibility to the people.

Everything has been added, athletes' honor, coaches have been added (increased) so we have to show the best to the community.

The people hoped that the 26 sports that passed would have to give the best to the people in West Papua, he hoped.

"Of the 26 sports with a total of 216 athletes, we must be optimistic and have a target to bring the Gold medal," he said.

The 26 sports that will participate in the XX PON event include Boxing, Football, Parachuting, Weight Lifting, Judo, Paddle, Pencak Silat, Motorized, Soft Ball, Hockey, Archery, Athletics, Kempo, Karate, Field Tennis, Volleyball , Shooting, Muaythai, Gymnastics, Sailing, Billiards, Chess, Badminton, Diving, Rollerblading and Swimming.
