KONI Kepri Prepares 15 Outstanding Athlete Sports

After the inauguration of the Riau Islands Province KONI Management for the period 2020-2024, the Chairperson of the Riau Islands KONI, Usep RS has prepared outstanding athletes from 15 sports who will compete in the upcoming PON (national sports week) 2021 in Papua.

This was conveyed by the Chairman of KONI Kepri, Usep RS during the inauguration of the Kepri KONI management for the 2020-2024 period by the General Chairman of the Central KONI, Lt. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Marciano Norman, at the Best Western Premier (BWP) Panbil Hotel, Batam, Thursday (28/1 / 2021).

The chairman of KONI Kepri, Usep RS said, the inauguration of KONI Kepri had been carried out well so that the new administrators could work more freely. After the SK came out last March, KONI Kepri has been working to prepare athletes who qualify for the 2021 Pon in Papua.

"Alhamdulillah, out of 15 sports have carried out independent training and currently it is just a matter of maturity. For the preparation of athletes currently doing independent training in each province, and our favorites are sailing, boxing and billiards. Of the 15 sports that pass, they will have the opportunity to win a medal at Pon 2021, "said Usep.

Usep explained, when PON was in West Java, KONI Kepri got 4 silver and 7 bronze ranks 19. The hope is that the athletes when PON 2021 in Papua will be in 15th place.

"Hopefully this can be achieved even though the budget given by the Riau Islands Province is only Rp. 3.5 billion while for tickets alone, it is almost Rp. 1.1 billion. There are no other preparations, "said Usep.

"With a sense of togetherness, God willing, with the new government we will collaborate with businessmen and collect sports appreciation nights," he continued.

"After the new Governor is inaugurated, we will invite businessmen who like sports to be more concerned about sports," he said.

Meanwhile, sports are seeded with screen sports. Last year, sailing sports won 4 gold medals, then boxing won 1 gold medal, while billiard won 2 medals and takraw football won 1 medal. This is what we hope for the 2021 PON.

At the same place, the General Chairperson of the Central KONI, Lt. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Marciano Norman congratulated the Chairperson of the Riau Islands KONI and its newly inaugurated ranks.

Marciano Norman said, Kepri has a very strategic position, apart from bordering Singapore and Malaysia, Batam is surrounded by islands that are widely known for their potential. I ask that sports potential can also be optimized and developed.

"Therefore, I hope that the administrators of the Riau Islands KONI who have just been appointed can carry out this mandate as well as possible so that they can cooperate with the leaders of the Sports Branch in the Riau Islands Province and in the Regency / City to jointly improve sports achievements in the Riau Islands Province. The hope is that in the 2021 PON which will be held in October, the contingent ranking of the Riau Islands Province can be better than previous times.

He hopes that the number of athletes from the Riau Islands Province who participate in the national training camp who are members of the National team in various sports can also increase in number.

"Sports coaching must also optimize regional excellence, therefore of the 15 sports in the Riau Islands which are superior. The concentration is there so that it will be the best in Indonesia and can represent us in the world, "he concluded.
