Continued support for Otsus, Papuan Muslim Leaders: For Welfare Improvement

The indigenous Papuan Muslim leaders agreed to support the continuation of Special Autonomy (Otsus) for Papua to continue in the Provinces of Papua and West Papua.

Chairman of the Papua Province MUI KH. Saiful Islam Al Fayage on the occasion said that the people of Papua should support the continuation of the Papua Special Autonomy, even though there are shortcomings, it is still continued to improve the welfare and human resources of Papua.

"I said that Otsus is still running but needs to be reconstructed. Because this special autonomy is a state policy so that Papuans can compete with their relatives outside Papua," he said.

However, he said, the implementation of the special autonomy which was still ongoing during this 2001-2021 vulnerability had to be reconstructed. The group that rejects otsus is also considered too phobic about otsus.

Meanwhile, Thoha Al Hamid, a Papuan Muslim leader who is also a member of the KAHMI Papua also conveyed the same thing. According to him, the group rejecting Otsus is only used as a protection for the Papuan elite who have spent the Special Autonomy fund.

"Because these elite people (they) do not want to be investigated regarding the use of the special autonomy funds, he has ordered the independent Papuan group to go forward and reject the special autonomy. This is a standard political trick," he said.

Thoha Al Hamid, who was also one of the proponents of the otsus struggle at that time with other Papuan figures, asked all members of the community to see the reality that was happening. Otsus has provided improved welfare and improved human resources in Papua.

"We live this life realistically, the road looks wide open to see the situation. Schools are getting smarter, the brain is used to see developments. So there are results but they are rejected.
