Members of the MRPB Suggest the Papua Special Autonomy Fund

The Central Government through the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati officially proposes an extension of the special autonomy fund (Otsus) budget for Papua and West Papua for the next 20 years.

The special autonomy funds for Papua and West Papua will end in December this year.

This is in accordance with Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for Papua and West Papua.

"So the point of revision of Law 21 of 2001, the problem of funding we propose several revisions, although the results are not optimal, we still support the special autonomy fund to be extended for another 20 years," said Sri Mulyani in a working meeting of Committee I DPD RI, some time ago, Tuesday ( 26/1/2021).

Regarding the extension of the Papua Special Autonomy Fund, member of the West Papua People's Assembly (MRPB) Leonard Yarollo also commented.

According to him, to answer questions from the central government through the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani where the Papua Special Autonomy fund is very large with a value of billions or even trillions of rupiah.

However, he said, until now the Papua and West Papua provincial governments were unable to manage it.

"As the Minister of Finance said that there are 6 (six) weaknesses in financial governance in Papua and West Papua. So this is a serious problem that must be answered by the governors of Papua and West Papua, "said Leonard in a press release, Wednesday (3/2/2021).

Leonard suggested that the solution for the management of Papua's Special Autonomy funds is that the governors of Papua and West Papua send indigenous Papuans (OAP) to study at a weighted university such as the State College of Accountancy (STAN).

"So that later the Papuan people can manage and autonomy it properly and correctly. Building Papuan human resources (HR) is very important by improving the quality of existing education, "he said.
