Jokowi Sets PON XX to be implemented in 2021 in Papua

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized that the implementation of the National Sports Week (PON) and the National Pralympic Week (Peparnas) will still be held in 2021 in Papua. This was conveyed by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali after attending a limited meeting regarding the preparations for the XX PON and Peparnas at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta.

"The President's direction, because it is ready, there will be no delay, PON because we have delayed it," said Zainudin Amali, Monday (15/3).

He explained that the PON will be held on October 2-15, 2021. However, Zainudin did not want to specify whether the PON will be held without spectators or be conducted with a limited capacity.

"We learned from the Tokyo Olympics, which will be carried out later. We will see what kind of implementation. Health protocols are important and must be disciplined," he explained.

Jokowi also advised before the agenda was held for all contingents to the community at the location to be injected with the vaccine. This is to make sure everything is safe.

"The president's direction for all contingents to be vaccinated, athletes, coaches, officials, support staff, even the president directed the community around the venue to be vaccinated, to ensure that by October they were all vaccinated," concluded Zainudin.
