Only a handful of residents reject special autonomy and new autonomous regions
Almost all people and figures who are indigenous Papuans accept government policies related to the Special Autonomy Fund (Otsus) and the formation of the New Autonomous Region (DOB). Only a small proportion reject the program.
This was conveyed by the son of the legend of the Papuan freedom fighter Theys Hiyo Eluay, Yanto Khomlay Eluay, in Jayapura, Papua.
Yanto Eluay said the Papuan people support Otsus but still needs to be evaluated.
"Otsus and DOB are government programs and there are already working teams in every region in Papua. Our attitude fully supports this program, especially Otsus, but it must be evaluated, ”said Yanto Eluay.
He rejected the news circulating that there were elements of society who rejected Otsus and DOB. According to Yanto, this cannot be generalized.
"Their voices do not represent Papuan society as a whole," said Yanto. "Almost all of the Papuan people support it, because they want to move forward. As with Otsus, many still want to continue so that the Papuan people can be more prosperous. "
Meanwhile, one of the Papuan youth leaders, Ali Kabiay, conveyed the same thing that Otsus must continue with a comprehensive audit and evaluation.
"That way we can see the shortcomings later," he said.
"Each program has an evaluation. Because by doing so, we will know where the weaknesses and strengths are to be considered the next special autonomy, "continued Ali.
Ali also expressed his views regarding the construction of the new Governor's office building, which is planned to be built with 22 floors. According to him, the plan is not urgent at this time.
"The people are still in trouble, in fact the government is busy trying to build a new building with 22 floors. This is redundant and not urgent yet, "he said.
