Sending TNI troops to Papua is not a military operation

Kapolda Papua, Inspector General Pol. Matius D. Fakhri said that the presence of Polri officers assisted by the TNI in Papua and especially in conflict areas was not a military operation but merely to enforce the law against separatist groups.

"The TNI and Polri are here to ensure that the state is present in Papua, in this case the conflict area, to enforce the law against anyone who violates the law," said Inspector General Fakhiri in Jayapura.

The statement made by the Regional Police Chief was to refute the accusation by KNPB Spokesperson, Victor Yeimo, who was considered a form of propaganda, saying that there were 21,369 military troops deployed to Papua, which he called a form of military operation.

Victor Yeimo's statement was posted by the Asia Pacific Report, which was adopted from local Papuan media and Suara Papua and has been published on March 14, 2021.

This statement came after the KKB took the Susi Air pilot hostage to distract the public.

In Jakarta, the Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly Bambang Soesatyo, Monday (15/03/2021) also asked the government and local governments together with the TNI-Polri to strengthen defense and security in areas prone to KKB disturbances, especially in vital objects by narrowing the KKB's space for movement. and cut off communication and supply lines for the needs of the KKB, considering that throughout 2021, many criminal acts by KKB had occurred and disturbed the public.

In Papua, the chief of the Dani tribe, Puncak Ilaga Regency, Papua, Jembatan Murib, also asked the people to stick to the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

"I am Jembatan Murib as the Chief of the Dani Tribe of Puncak Ilaga Regency, asking the community to stick to the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia," he said.

The Murib Bridge states that the government is God's representative on this earth. As a society, it must obey the government.

"In addition, the government has also paid special attention to us Papuans, from development to many Papuan children who have become government officials both in Papua and outside Papua," he explained.

On that occasion, Jembatan Murib also thanked the security forces, namely the TNI-Polri, who have provided a sense of security to the people in Puncak Regency. So that people's daily activities can run safely and peacefully.

It is said, the existence of KKB in Papua so far has been more likely to disturb and spread terror in Cendrawasih Earth, rather than "fighting" for the welfare of the Papuan people as they often say. Instead of supporting the ongoing development and being pursued by the government, the KKB actually destabilized the situation and conditions.

However, when the law enforcement apparatus (TNI-Polri) took firm action, the KKB and all its supporters clashed law enforcement efforts with human rights violations.

The Executive Director of the Institute's Strategy, Anthony Danar, said that law enforcement and human rights enforcement in Papua should not be confused.

"It cannot be mixed, yes, if there is a violation, it is clear that it must be dealt with, if it disturbs the public, it must be acted on legally and measuredly, while human rights issues must still be considered, but it cannot be mixed up," said Anthony.
