Central KONI: Papua Very Ready to Hold XX PON

Chairman of the Central KONI Marciano Norman emphasized that Papua is ready to hold the XX National Sports Week (PON). Papua is claimed to be safe.

Marciano attended the second PON Chef de Mission (CdM) meeting which took place at the Suni Lake Hotel, at 19.00 WIT. Prior to that, he also visited the offices of the Regent and Mayor of Jayapura.

During the meeting, the former Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) received reports from the two regional heads who became the cluster for the implementation of PON Papua.

"We have received reports that they are very well prepared to face the national sports event for the four years," said Marciano in a press release from KONI Pusat.

"We also agreed to make this Papua PON a revival of the Indonesian people from the COVID-19 pandemic," he continued

As is known, PON implementation was delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak that occurred in Indonesia. They have difficulty completing the physical work of the venue and procuring equipment due to restrictions from outside countries.

As a result, PON Papua, which was originally scheduled to take place on 20 October-2 November 2020, had to postpone its implementation to 2 to 15 October 2021. Now, this obstacle has been resolved.

Marciano hopes that this readiness will also be accompanied by success in the implementation of the event. Especially the health protocol so that participants who come can return to their respective areas in good health.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, as well as the Chairman of PB PON XX, agrees with the statement of the Central KONI Ketum. He made sure that the area was safe to visit and was ready to hold PON Papua.

"Do not hesitate to come to Papua. The Papuan people are proud to be the host, there is no threat whatsoever. Papua is safe," said Lukas who was also present at the opening of CdM Meeting II.

On the same occasion, Jaleswari Pramodhawardhani, Deputy V of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) emphasized that the success of PON will give trust to the outside community regarding Papua who is known to be good and safe. This is because PON is not only related to the awakening of the nation, but also strategic opportunities for the community itself. "PON is a strategic opportunity to elevate Papua in Southeast Asia," he said.
