Minister of Health Ensures Sufficient Vaccine Stocks in Papua Ahead of PON

Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin confirmed that the vaccine stock in Papua ahead of the National Sports Week (PON) is sufficient. PON will be held on October 2 to 15, 2021.
 
"It takes around 200 thousand (doses) for October, it can certainly be fulfilled," Budi said in his statement, Saturday, April 17, 2021.
 
Budi said Indonesia would receive additional vaccine doses starting June 2021. Thus, the stock of vaccines in the country would increase, including for Papua.

Budi acknowledged that there is a limited supply of vaccines this month. This is because India, as a vaccine producer, AstraZeneca embargoed its vaccines for its own use.
 
"Therefore, currently available vaccine stocks are encouraged for the elderly (elderly) as a high-risk group," he said.
 
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Zainudin Amali, confirmed that the XX PON would not be postponed any longer. XX PON will be held on October 2-15, 2021.

"The President's (Joko Widodo) directive, because everything is ready, we will do it in 2021. There is no delay because we have already delayed it in 2020," said Zainudin at the Presidential Office, Central Jakarta, Monday, March 15, 2021.
 
Meanwhile, the results of the meeting between the XX Papua PON Grand Committee and the Central Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) require that all participants in the PON Papua 2021 have undergone Covid-19 vaccination before setting foot on Cendrawasih Earth.
 
Deputy Chairman of the Central KONI who is also the Chairperson of the PON XX Papua Panwasrah, Suwarno, through the Papua provincial government website said that thus not only athletes are vaccinated but officials from each province as well as the implementing committee for the XX PON agenda in Papua must receive vaccines before being involved in therein.
 
"Even the people around the venue are required to get vaccines so that the implementation of PON on October 2 to 15, 2021 will not become a new cluster of covid-19 transmission," he said.
