The Murder of Two Masters in Beoga Was Cruel and Inhuman

Executive Director of the Papua Justice and Human Integrity Foundation (World Human Rights Defender), Theo Hesegem strongly condemns the shooting of two teachers in Beoga, Puncak Regency, because it was a very heinous and inhuman act.

According to him, a joint team must be formed which involves various parties to carry out investigations related to the shooting of the two teachers.

"As a human rights defender, I really regret the brutal actions allegedly carried out by the OPM, which sacrificed the two teachers, who did not know the problem at all? what's the point of shooting civilians whose notes don't know the problem? ” said Theo through reales to the media, Sunday (11/04/21)

He also said that as citizens they also have the same right to life as us, as citizens they also have the right to live throughout Indonesia, including the Land of Papua.

"They came to develop human resources in Papua, why were they shot? With teachers, we can be smart and become great people in this land, to develop Papua, ”he said.

According to him, teachers should be given freedom so that they are free to carry out their duties and responsibilities as teachers, they must be free, respected and respected by all people, including OPM.

Because according to him, their arrival in Beoga was to develop human resources and education in Papua, specifically Puncak Regency.

"It is necessary to know that without teachers, education in Papua cannot progress, therefore everyone has an obligation to look after and protect them (teachers) even though they are non-Papuans," he said.

So that the relationship between indigenous Papuans and non-Papuan people has a very harmonious relationship and builds civilization in the Land of Papua.

"In my opinion, if the shooting was allegedly carried out by the OPM / TPNPB, it was an immeasurable act and it was detrimental to school children, because without the school teacher it would not run well, all students would be stupid because they did not study well. Teachers shouldn't be shot and in my opinion, this action is inhumane, ”he said.

He also considered that if it was true that the shooting was carried out by the OPM / TPNPB, then this action really reflects the struggle of those who have been fighting for an independent Papua in the eyes of the international community.

As a human rights defender, he deeply regrets the actions taken by the TNI / Polri and OPM / TPNPB officials who are always very unprofessional. According to him, all these actions must be justified legally in accordance with the applicable law.

As a human rights defender, he strongly condemns the action because he thinks it is very inhumane. The only one who can take human life away is God, not man.

"I am very sorry for the shooting of the two teachers in Beoga, because the future of children's education in Puncak Papua Regency will be left far behind," he added.

Teachers must and must be protected by everyone, they (teachers) cannot be treated like that, because teachers are educators whose aim is to educate Papuan children, who will later build Puncak and Papua in general.

He also asked that the perpetrators of the shooting of these teachers must be arrested and processed according to the law, because the actions that were carried out were illegal.

"If the perpetrator is the OPM, they must be held accountable for their actions. Therefore the Papua Police must prepare legal measures, "he said.

Theo continued, the government led by Indonesian Rebuplik President Ir Joko Widodo, must open up and seek new formats to resolve the bloodshed that occurred in Papua, so that the shootings that have occurred so far can be ended.

The government must open its eyes and ears, not be mute, and deaf to events in Papua, please open a space for dialogue with dignity and authority.

"In my opinion, for the murder of the two teachers in Beoga, there needs to be an investigation team, which is controlled by the Provincial Government, so that the results of the investigation referred to are sent to Jakarta so that efforts can be made by the central government," he said.

The team in question, according to Theo, was formed independently and professionally, so that it involved the Church, NGOs, Komnas HAM, including human rights observers. so that work can also be measured and professional.
