Please Yes, Don't Call KKB Papua, But KKB People
The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md asked that the term Papuan Armed Criminal Group (KKB) no longer be used.
Mahfud said the word Papua could include Papuan culture, land, customs and diaspora so that it could target Papuans anywhere other than armed groups that have been labeled as terrorists.
"Please, don't call it the Papuan KKB, but the KKB of the people, whose leadership is it," said Mahfud.
The government, said Mahfud, would specifically mention the names of the KKB group leaders. For example Egianus Kogoya, Murib Military, and others. He said there were 19 names of the groups, but did not give details.
Mahfud said the government had evidence that the 19 groups were spreading fear, killing and challenging to separate from Indonesia.
Earlier in late April, Mahfud announced that the government had designated the KKB in Papua as a terrorist group. The embedding of the label is actually just a juridical confirmation. This group has carried out terror as defined in the Terrorism Law.
Mahfud said they had planned, mobilized and organized acts of violence or threats of violence that caused fear, damaged vital objects and killed civilians.
"It's already terror and they openly challenge against the republic (NKRI)," he said.
Mahfud stated that the KKB only had little power in numbers. "If it is determined to be a terrorist but it is measurable, it is called who it is, who is it, who is the group, that is easier, so that not all Papuans are considered terrorists," he said.
