Special Autonomy to Empower the Natural Resources of Indigenous Papuans

Special Autonomy (Otsus) is the policy of the central government for Papua as a form of the central government's attention to the Papuan people. In addition, Otsus is also given to empower the human resources of Indigenous Papuans (OAP).

As Otsus has been running for about 20 years, it is undeniable that the implementation of Otsus Papua has proven to make a significant contribution in infrastructure development, improving the community's economy, developing human resources and fostering customary institutions or organizations in Papua, so that Otsus needs to be supported by its sustainability to create an independent Papua. and prosperous without neglecting local cultural elements.

Chairman of GMKI Kab. South Sorong, Ronald Karsau said that Otsus Papua can be said to have been quite successful. However, there needs to be a revision so that the community can enjoy the benefits of Otsus funds in real terms, one of which is in the field of OAP human resource development.

"The aim of implementing Otsus Papua which was proclaimed by the central government to target infrastructure development, economic sector development and OAP human resources should be appreciated. There must be supervision of the distribution of Otsus funds so that they can be distributed to all levels of the OAP community, "said Ronald, (24/4/21).

The implementation of a healthy government system in the implementation of Otsus can increase public trust, especially OAP in the local government. In addition, GMKI will continue to oversee the sustainability of Special Autonomy Volume II to ensure that the implementation of Otsus Papua is successful.

"As Chair of GMKI, I invite all elements of the OAP community to oversee the continuation of Special Autonomy Volume II and to be more pro-active in helping human resource development efforts, especially for the younger generation," he concluded.
