The National Police Chief Prepares a Security Strategy for Papernas XVI and PON Papua

In addition to providing directions to TNI-Polri personnel who are members of the Nemangkawi Operation Task Force, during their visit to Papua, the National Police Chief, General Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo and TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto also ensure the security of Papua Province ahead of the XX PON and Papernas XVI 2021.

"The purpose of my visit and the Panglima to Papua is to see first hand the security situation in Papua. Based on the Kamtibmas calendar, there are several important agendas to be carried out in Papua, such as PON XX and Papernas XVI 2021 and so on which require a safe and comfortable Kamtibmas situation, "he said.

The National Police Chief and the TNI Commander admitted to having prepared a special security strategy. Security will later involve other stakeholders such as the provincial government, religious leaders, traditional leaders and community leaders.

Moreover, the National Police continued, saying that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is currently focusing on the development of Papua, be it infrastructure, welfare, education, health and others.

"The president has given special attention to Papua in order to accelerate development like other regions," he said.

This effort is a form of the government's commitment to change the development paradigm from Java-centric to Indonesia-centric.

The National Police Chief revealed several developments that have been carried out by the government, namely several bridge construction, PLBN RI and Papua New Guinea, airports, ports and markets.

Meanwhile, other infrastructure development that will be continued is the Trans Papua Road which connects West Papua and Papua, stretching from Sorong to Merauke with a length of 4,330.07 KM.

Then the construction of the Palapa Ring which covers 51 districts / cities, a Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG), a Hydro Power Plant, a Mini Hydro Power Plant, the construction of the RI-Papua New Guinea border road, the construction of the Lukas Enembe Stadium and others.

In addition, the efforts that have been made by the government to build superior Papuan human resources, namely from an economic point of view, include assistance to MSMEs, village-based community development, development of superior pig seeds through artificial insemination.

In terms of education, the government has built houses for teachers, dormitories for students and university students and provides assistance for the rehabilitation of school infrastructure.

In terms of health, building a polyclinic at the Jayapura Regional Hospital, a free medical treatment program and malaria control services.

"This ongoing development must be supported by the stability of security and public order (kamtibmas), which of course is the responsibility of all parties and the people of Papua," he said.

Currently, there are several problems that hamper the development and improvement of welfare programs in Papua. One of them is that the government's efforts have not been socialized.

"In this regard, the President hopes that the resolution of the problem is carried out through face-to-face and dialogue by paying attention to customs, as well as the same frequency so that it becomes the basis for building Papua," he said.

Sigit admitted that he and the TNI Commander at this time came directly to have face-to-face and dialogue with religious, traditional and community leaders in order to get support and input to solve all problems.

"My hope is that with this dialogue, the Papuan people can play an active role and jointly maintain security stability to realize the development and enhancement of superior Papuan human resources, as well as being able to manage natural resources optimally so as to ensure the welfare of the Papuan people," he concluded.
