Menpora Ensures PON Papua 2020 Runs on Schedule

Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali ensured that the Papua National Sports Week (PON) would continue as scheduled from 2-15 October.

After receiving a visit from the Deputy Governor of Papua Klemen Tinal at the Kemenpora Office, Jakarta, Zainudin said that all parties need not worry because the government has committed to vaccinating athletes, officials and the community around the match venue for the realization of a safe Papua PON.

“PON is no problem, according to schedule. Even the efforts of the provincial government to make the surrounding community protected from the pandemic. There is a vaccine policy, so it's safe. Please come. We will succeed PON Papua," said Zainudin.

Zainudin admitted that he had coordinated with the Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin regarding the availability and implementation of vaccinations, which were confirmed to be carried out before the Papua PON was held.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Papua, Klement Tinal, ensures that conditions in Papua are safe and conducive. According to him, the conflict between armed criminal groups (KKB) occurred far from the venue of the PON match. He also hoped that the participants from various regions would not be affected by the news that Papua was not safe.

"If there is information, say the situation is that Papua is not safe, we want to convey that Papua is safe in relation to PON. The place where it takes place is safe. We welcome and welcome them well,” said Klemen.

He added that the preparations for organizing PON in four locations in Papua, namely Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Merauke and Timika have also been confirmed almost 100 percent, especially venues and lodging.

"Everything is going according to schedule. So some have reached 100 percent, some have 50 percent. But we hope that three months before the PON occurs, 100 percent of the existing venues are 90 percent complete. Only 10 percent is left," he said.
