Papua Provincial Government Sends 24 Best Students to Study in the United States




The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Papua sent 24 of the best students to continue their higher education in the United States. Later, they will study at 3 different universities.

According to the Head of the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) of Papua Province, Aryoko AF Rumaropen, 24 students who were sent to America will study at the University of Rhode Island (URI), Johnson and Wales University and Highline College.

"22 native Papuan students will attend lectures at three universities in the state of Rhode Island, United States of America, namely URI, Johnson and Wales University and Highline College for undergraduate and postgraduate students as many as 2 people," said Aryoko, quoted by detikEdu, Tuesday (29/29). /6/2021).

The 24 students are recipients of the Papua Superior Student Scholarship Program which is funded by Papua's special autonomy. Before leaving, they had two years of training at the Papua Language Institute (PLI) Jayapura in partnership with Indonesia Education Partnerships.

Aryoko revealed that the Papua Provincial Government continues to strive to develop Papuan Human Resources (HR). This is realized by facilitating the best Papuan students to study at universities at home and abroad in America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

In line with that, the Director of PLI Papua, Samuel Tabuni said he was proud and appreciated the Provincial Government of Papua for collaborating with PLI and Indonesia Education Partnerships, as well as other educational institutions in fostering and preparing OAP students to study abroad.

According to Samuel, the 22 students who will go and study in Rhode Island, America, have undergone training and preparation for 2 years in Jayapura. They are given special coaching, such as mastery of English and academic improvement as well as science, especially mathematics, basic physics and chemistry.

"They are also trained to build character or character building. We hope that with this coaching, OAP students can adapt in America to the culture there and be able to complete their studies on time so they can return to their homeland to build Indonesia and Papua," he explained.

Meanwhile, URI's Director of Education and Partnerships for Asia, Brook Ross, said that Papuan children sent to America to study there have tremendous potential and take much-needed study programs. So that they will be able to develop Papua and Indonesia in the future.

"They all have potential and have a strong desire to learn. In the future they will build Papua and Indonesia with the knowledge they have gained," concluded Brook.
