The Indonesian government pays great attention to Papua

Intelligence and security observer Stepi Andriani said the Indonesian government had been paying great attention to Papua.

According to Stepi, since President Soekarno to President Joko Widodo, the government has done its best to maintain Papua as part of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia.

"So far, the government has focused on developing Papua," said Stepi, quoted from a press release in Jakarta, Sunday.

According to him, Papua is part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia under international law, there is no problem. In the New York Agreement on 15-8-1962 it was written and legally that Papua's sovereignty was within the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

"UN Resolution No. 2504 also recognizes Papua as being part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," said Stepi when speaking at a webinar entitled "Separatism and Terrorism in Papua" held by the European Association for Indonesia, Saturday (19/6).

He assessed that the conflict in Papua was carried out by the political Free Papua Organization group.

Former Free Papua Movement activist John Al Norotouw said that conflicts in Papua must be resolved.

He said that Papua as part of Indonesia was final because it was recognized by the United Nations. Even those who want to liberate Papua are unable to revoke the UN resolution or decision.

He said it was time to focus on building the beloved Papua. He admitted that he made the decision to join the Indonesian government for the sake of the prosperous and advanced Papuan people.

The government is currently providing a special package with the Papua Special Autonomy fund which, if managed properly, Papua will progress compared to others.
