Four Cluster Events, Proof that Papua is Ready to Hold XX Papua PON 2021

The XX National Sports Week (PON) is planned to take place from 2-15 October 2021 in Jayapura, Papua.

PON activities are usually held every four years, the last in 2016 in Bandung.

This sporting event should have been held in 2020. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the schedule has been postponed to 2021.

There will be 37 sports that will be competed in PON XX Papua.

The competition will be held in four clusters, namely Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Merauke and Mimika Regency.

This event featured regional music entertainment and provided economic business stands for 35 small and medium businesses in Jayapura City and Jayapura Regency.

The Jayapura MSME actors sell a variety of culinary foods, Papuan batik clothes, noken bags and Papuan coffee.

The celebration of the XX Papua PON was held to provide information to the public that Papua was ready to hold the Papuan PON.

Quoted by KabarLumajang.com from the kominfo.go.id page on November 2, 2019, PON XX Papua in 2021 introduced 2 mascots inspired by two Papuan animals. The two mascots are Kangpho and Drawa.

Kangpho stands for tree kangaroo, which is a marsupial animal or mammal that has a pouch on its stomach.

While Drawa is an adult male bird that has decorations dominated by red, orange and mixed colors of red and orange on the side of the abdomen.

Besides the mascot, there is also a tagline that reads Torang Bisa (We Can).

#torangbisa means Papuan special encouragement to inflame the spirit of the athletes who will compete in XX PON.
