Covid-19 Vaccination Week Towards XX Papua PON

Three months before the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) in 2021, the committee began to make preparations. One of them is vaccinating against COVID-19 for the organizing committee.

The vaccination which took place in the hall of the Papua Province Autonomous Office in Kotaraja, Jayapura City, was not only attended by the PON Committee but also the general public.

The chairman of the Coordinating Team for the PB PON Papua Covid-19 Vaccination Week, Dr. Demus Kogoya, said that the Covid-19 Vaccination Week leading to PON XX 2021 will last for the next one week.

“Everyone involved in the PON committee is obligated to vaccinate, because they will meet many people from outside the area who we cannot know whether they have COVID-19 or not. It is said, on several occasions, President Joko Widodo has ordered the Papuan government to give vaccinations to all committees, athletes and people around the PON venues, "said dr. Demus Kogoya told reporters on the sidelines of the Covid-19 vaccination, Thursday (22/7/2021).

dr. Demus said, everyone who will be involved in the PON next October is obliged to get vaccinated. "We, Papua, are not vaccinated, athletes from officials from 33 other provinces are also vaccinated, Mr. President stated that athletes must be vaccinated, as well as communities around sports competition venues will also be vaccinated," he said.


On the same occasion, the General Secretary of PB PON Papua, Elia Loupatty, thanked the Papua Provincial Health Team for assisting in the Covid-19 vaccination for committees, athletes, officials and the public in the PON venue area.

According to him, the vaccine is a momentum for Papua to welcome the PON in October, and the President's order for everyone involved in the PON to be vaccinated.

"We will face many people who come from outside the region, so this vaccination is good for ourselves, and we PON committee must be an example for others," he said.

Loupatty added that the Vaccine Week towards XX PON was not only held in Jayapura, but also carried out in other clusters.

As in Jayapura City, he said, Sub PB PON Jayapura City has vaccinated the community around the match venue.

"Jayapura, Mimika, and Merauke regencies have already started the vaccination team, even the President has ordered the people of Keerom Regency to be vaccinated because it is close to Jayapura city," he said.

In addition, the COVID-19 vaccination will continue to be pursued so that all committee members get the vaccine so that everything can work well.

"We, the committee must be healthy, how are we going to hold the PON if the committee itself is not healthy, the committee will work full time in the field, so we make sure everything must be healthy," he concluded.
