Deputy Speaker of the Papuan DPR reminds residents not to be influenced by vaccination hoaxes

Deputy Chairman I of the Papuan DPR, Yunus Wonda reminded residents not to be influenced by various hoax information circulating in the public regarding the adverse effects of Covid-19 vaccination.

He said, don't always think negatively about vaccines. In the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, vaccines are now one way to stop the spread of Corona. Protect a person so that when he is infected his condition is not severe, maybe even asymptomatic.

“[The public] should not follow too much hoax information, if they are vaccinated, it will be like this. Vaccination is not only in Papua but applies nationally and even worldwide. Other countries also carry out vaccinations," said Yunus Wonda.

However, according to him, it is everyone's right to be vaccinated or not. However, if you want to be vaccinated the person must first make sure his condition.

Whether he has any inherited diseases that can be bad if he receives the vaccine or not.

"If there is a congenital disease, it must be checked first so that unexpected things don't happen. Socialization must also continue. [Corona] is a thing that kills slowly and this virus exists," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Disease Prevention and Control at the Papua Provincial Health Office, Dr. Aaron Rumainum, stated that the Corona pandemic is now running hand in hand with hoaxes, especially in the implementation of vaccinations.

According to him, in Papua the Covid-19 Task Force in various regions has made every effort to disseminate information about the importance of vaccination. However, there are still those who refuse for various reasons.

"They have socialized this task force. Only the Covid-19 pandemic works, but the hoax pandemic about Covid-19 also works. That's also a problem. The problem is on social media. Social media is unstoppable,” said Aaron Rumainum last week.

He said the refusal of vaccination did not only come from the residents. The figures in Papua also do not want to be vaccinated for various reasons.

“Many of these figures do not want to be injected (vaccinated). The key for these areas [in Papua where vaccination coverage is still low] is religious leaders. If religious leaders, church leaders want an injection, I think the residents will also want it,” he said.

Dr. Aaron Rumainum hopes that Papuans will realize the importance of giving the Covid-19 vaccine. Because, those who are not vaccinated when finally positive for Covid-19 will experience severe symptoms.

"Don't be afraid to get vaccinated. If you have been vaccinated, the symptoms do not appear. Tend to be mild or asymptomatic. If not vaccinated, the symptoms will be severe," he said.
