Legal! Papua Special Autonomy Fund Until 2041, Amount & Disbursement Changed

The government and the House of Representatives (DPR RI) agreed to continue providing special autonomy funds (Otsus) to Papua for the next 20 years until 2041. This was agreed at a plenary meeting.
The extension of this flow of funds was carried out through the second amendment to Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for Papua Province.

"We will ask the session participants whether the bill on the second amendment to Law number 21 can be approved for ratification into law," asked the chair of the meeting in the Plenary Session Room, Thursday (15/7/2021).

As is known, in Law number 21 of 2001 it is stipulated that the flow of special autonomy funds to Papua will end this year. So it needs to be extended because this special budget is still needed for development in Papua.

"Article 34 states that the special autonomy fund is valid for 20 years, so that if no changes are made, the special autonomy fund will expire in 2021, while the special autonomy fund is still very much needed to accelerate Papua's development," said Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian in his remarks.
