PAPUA GROWING THROUGH OTSUS

Head of Governance and Human Development of Sorong City Bappeda/Malanu Community Leader of Sorong City, Niko Antoh said that Otsus is a form of concern from the Central Government towards Papuan people so that they can achieve prosperity like people in other regions.

His party said that the Special Autonomy program which had been running for 20 years had provided impetus for the progress of the Papuan people, especially in the fields of education, health and infrastructure development.

In the field of education, the community is certainly greatly helped by the existence of educational scholarships for Papuan children so that they can continue their education to a higher level. Even if it is seen that not a few Papuan children are able to receive education abroad.

In the infrastructure sector, Otsus also plays a very important role in opening access for people living in remote areas. Currently, we can observe for ourselves tangible evidence of the presence of Otsus through the construction of roads and bridges, which have benefited even to remote areas. Therefore, this certainly can boost the economy in remote areas so that it can be more advanced in the future.

He hopes that the Government can again increase the Otsus budget and guarantee its supervision so that it can answer the shortcomings that still exist while at the same time encouraging that the benefits of this Special Autonomy can be felt directly by the community.

He also suggested that in the future Otsus could be re-socialized because most of the Papuan people only knew about this Special Autonomy assistance in the form of cash assistance. In fact, the form of Otsus assistance itself is quite diverse, and according to him, the development program from Otsus itself needs to be continuously improved so that the community does not only receive cash assistance, but can receive much greater benefits, both in terms of community independence and human resource development.

He appealed to the OAP community, especially those living in the Malanu area, Sorong City, to support the sustainability of Otsus, because so many benefits of Otsus have been proven and felt by the community.
