Saireri Youth Asks All Parties to Support XX Papua PON

The Saireri Youth Central Leadership Council (DPP), as the parent organ of youth and students from the Saireri indigenous territory, expressed its support for the implementation of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) 2021.

"We as youth elements from Saireri feel the need to be proactive, to contribute and provide aspirations to the Papuan government, for the implementation of the XX Papua PON 2021," said General Chairperson of the Saireri Youth DPP Gifli Buine in Jayapura, Wednesday (21/7/2021).

In the first point of the statement, he emphasized that the implementation of the Papua PON must be successful and there should be no rejection from any party.

"Representing youth leaders in Papua, we appeal to all components of the community in Papua to support the Papua National PON, so that the implementation can run smoothly. If there is still resistance from the existing cluster, KONI and Mempora need to intervene. And regarding budget transparency, there must be openness,” said Gifli Buinei reading the second point of the statement.

Pemuda Saireri believes that PON is a place to show achievement for the young generation of Papuans, because it needs full support from all parties, including youth.

"We have been given full trust by the central government, to organize it, all parties should support it, not the other way around," he said again.

Saireri Youth also hopes that Papua as the host can show the best in the PON event later.

“So it is not only successful as an organizer but also successful in achieving achievements in order to maintain the good name of the Land of Papua. If there are parties who agree or try to thwart the implementation of the PON, it means that these individuals do not understand progress," said Gifli.

In the midst of Papua's security issues, he also asked that PB PON can guarantee the implementation of PON. PB PON together with the TNI/Polri were asked to be more optimal in preparing security technical steps so that the four-yearly national sports event was a success.

As a proposal, they also asked the Papua Provincial Government to immediately close the entry route to Papua, either by air or by sea. This was conveyed with the intention that the implementation of the PON would not be disrupted by the current Covid-19 situation.
