Don't Divide Our Unity, Papua Has Become Part of Indonesia

One of the triggers for the emergence of mutual suspicion between Papua and the Indonesian government is the different understanding of the history of Papua's integration into the Republic of Indonesia. The former Dutch colony, West Papua, has been part of Indonesia since 1969 through a controversial UN-supervised referendum. the vote, known as the Act of Free Choice, was invalid so that a second referendum on the status of the territory had to be held, the attempt to break away from Indonesia had sparked a long conflict in the region which is rich in natural resources. and officially documented to the United Nations World Agency.

However, mutual suspicion was deliberately created and maintained by groups that have certain interests both from outside and from within the country to free Papua from the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

The Netherlands handed over power over West Irian to the United Nations for that purpose, a temporary government agency of the United Nations was formed. Untea. The takeover of the government of West Irian by Untea was recorded in UN General Assembly resolution number 1752 dated September 21, 1992. So on October 1, 1962, the transfer of power officially took place from the Dutch government to Untea under the leadership of Adninustrato Jose Rolz Bennet who was soon replaced by Dr. Djalal Abdoh.

And on December 31, 1962 the Dutch flag was lowered from the West Papua region and instead the Indonesian Red and White flag was hoisted alongside the UN flag in February 1963 the UN Secretary General to Jaya Pura to clarify that the UN would ensure a smooth transfer of power from Untea to the Indonesian Government. Because the guidelines for the integration of Papua on May 1, 1963 as well as the results of the 1969 PAPERA which gave birth to UN resolution 2405. "The results of the Papera are valid according to the "New York Agreement" of 1962 and this Papera has also been ratified by the General Assembly of the United Nations through Resolution 2505, on November 19, 1969, "This means that the return of Papua to the lap of Indonesia has been fully supported by the UN international community.
