Kosgoro 1957 Supports PON Event in Papua

The Kosgoro Collective Central Executive (PPK) 1957 refused the government to cancel the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON).

The Secretary General (Sekjen) of the Collective Central Leadership (PPK) Kosgoro 1957, Sabil Rachman said that at the beginning of the implementation in Solo in 1948, it was intended to be a means of unifying the nation, as well as part of the declaration of Indonesia's sovereignty in the eyes of the world. Now after 76 years of independence, we agree that XX PON will be held in Papua at the same time as a means of proving the country's athletes to excel.

"Whoever the person is and whatever the reason, we must still be able to hold the Papua PON," he said on Sunday, August 8, 2021.

Previously on a number of social media, Haris Pertama's statement appeared on behalf of the General Chairperson of the KNPI DPP inviting him to cancel the XX Papua PON. According to Sabil Rachman, 2020 should be the XX PON moment in Papua. However, it was finally decided to postpone it until October 2021. Witnessing Tokyo Japan's success in holding the Olympics, it should increase the confidence of all parties, that the Papua PON can be carried out better, even during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Because reports of the number of deaths due to Covid-19 are decreasing, it also proves that our herd immunity is getting higher," he added.

Furthermore, Kosgoro 1957, one of the community organizations with management up to the sub-district level throughout Indonesia, has given full support since it was announced that Papua will host the XX PON.

"We have given the trust of the management and cadres of Kosgoro 1957 in Papua to be active and fully assist the implementation of the XX PON. Therefore, we also hope that the government does not need to be influenced by meaningless narratives from parties who want to thwart the implementation of the PON in Papua.

He believes that the basis and reason for the government to organize the Papua PON has gone through various comprehensive considerations.

Through PON XX, the state has given confidence to the brothers and sisters in Papua to be able to carry out national events and at the same time prove that the level of communal immunity in the easternmost region of the country is quite good.

Regarding Covid-19, of course, there is one thing that we cannot ignore. This means that the organizers must be very concerned about and maintain the safety of all the components involved, especially the athletes and officials. For this reason, health protocols are the main reference when we carry out all community activities, including PON XX Papua 2020.

"Continue to excite our spirit of solidarity and unity for the success of PON XX Papua 2020. Hopefully from Papua will be born national athletes who are proud of the nation," he said.
