Victor Yeimo, the mastermind of the riots in Jayapura will soon be tried




The legal process that ensnared Victor Yeimo, the alleged mastermind behind the Jayapura riots on August 29, 2019, has now reached the prosecutor's office.

The head of the Papuan High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati), Nikholaus Kondomo, confirmed that the file that the prosecutor had just received from the Papuan Police on Friday (6/8/2021) had now been forwarded to the Jayapura District Court.

"Since Friday, the case has entered phase two and today we will also transfer it to the district court for trial," said Nikholaus, through a virtual press statement, Tuesday (10/8/2021).

Victor Yeimo was charged with Article 106 in conjunction with Article 87 of the Criminal Code and or Article 110 of the Criminal Code and or Article 14 Paragraph (91), (2) and Article 15 of Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning Criminal Law Regulations and or Article 66 of Law Number 24 of 2009 concerning Flag, Language, State Emblem and National Anthem and or Article 160 of the Criminal Code and or Article 187 of the Criminal Code and or Article 365 of the Criminal Code and or Article 170 Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code and or Article 2 of the Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951 in conjunction with Article 64 KUHP.

Regarding the defendant's health condition, Victor Yeimo, Nikholaus said his team would take him to undergo a medical examination.

"Today, the defendant carried out a medical examination at the Jayapura Hospital, to fulfill the defendant's right to obtain health," he said.

Regarding the pressure from a number of parties to transfer Victor Yeimo from the Mako Brimob Rutan Kotaraja to Abepura Prison, Nikholaus ensured that this would be done immediately.

"When it reaches the third stage, Victor Yeimo will be transferred to the Abepura Prison," he said.

On the same occasion, the Chairman of the Papuan People's Representative Council (DPRP), Johny Banua Rouw, said that there were aspirations from the Papua Legal Aid Institute which were conveyed through Commission I of the DPRP regarding Victor Yeimo's health condition.

"Regarding the handling of the Victor Yeimo case, it was reported that he was in a sick condition because the place of detention was quite closed so that it affected his health condition, that was the aspiration that was conveyed to me," he said.

He emphasized that he did not want to interfere with the ongoing law enforcement process.

Johny stated that he only wanted all the property rights of every citizen to be given even though Victor Yeimo was a defendant in the Jayapura riots.

"We must ensure that in terms of humanity, every suspect, whatever the case, he must be treated properly in accordance with humanitarian principles, we do not interfere with the legal process," he said.
