1,436 Students in Jayapura Receive Scholarships from Special Autonomy Funds
A total of 1,436 students in Jayapura City and Regency received scholarship assistance taken from the Papua Provincial Government's Special Autonomy (Otsus) program. This educational funding assistance is given to accelerate the completion of studies, especially during the current pandemic.
According to the Expert Staff of the Governor of Papua for Special Autonomy Triwarno Purnomo, many Papuan children have fairly good academic abilities, but must try hard to find additional work as laborers to pay for education.

Head of the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) of Papua province Aryoko Rumaropen also revealed the number of students who received scholarships. He said that thousands of students who received the scholarships included 100 at Ottow Gleisser University, 200 at the Gidi Theological College in Papua and 100 at Yapis University.
"There are also 137 medical professionals and nine undergraduate education staff for lecturers at Cenderawasih University, then 33 people at the Indonesian Cultural Arts Institute and others," he said.
He added, in order to improve the competitiveness of human resources, especially Papuan Indigenous People, Papua Special Autonomy funds have been used to send 1,884 people to school from 2012 to 2020.
"A total of 1,156 people are recipients of scholarships to study in the country with study locations in 19 cities in Indonesia and 688 others are recipients of scholarships to study abroad in 15 countries in 160 universities," he said.
