KNPB Involved in KKB Actions Harassing and Killing Health Workers in Papua

The commander of Korem (Danrem) 172/Praja Wira Yati, Brigadier General Izak Pangemanan, said the West Papua National Committee (KNPB) was involved in the attack on health workers and the burning of a number of facilities in Kiwirok District, Pengunungan Bintang Regency, Papua. Izak confirmed that KNPB was suspected of helping KKB create chaos.

"Yesterday's attack was carried out by the KNPB which was backed up by the KKB," Izak told reporters in Jayapura, Friday (17/9/2021).

Izak said his party was currently pursuing the perpetrators. According to him, the TNI and Polri have added troops to arrest the perpetrators.

"What the KST group did was inhumane. It was very barbaric," he said.

"The health workers are willing to leave their families to only do their noble duties, namely to provide health services to the surrounding community. Why are health workers being targeted? Why not go to war with the TNI-Polri," he added.

He said the involvement of the KNPB in this barbaric act was the result of the arrests of the Chairman of the Bintang Mountains KNPB with the initials YO and the chairman of the Kiwirok District KNPB with the initials KO in Batom. They are said to have brought 5 weapons from Papua New Guinea.

According to Izak, the TNI-Polri are ready to go to war with the KKB who are labeled as terrorists by the state. "We are ready if we want to go to war, we are very ready, but don't hurt people who don't know anything," he said.

Today, the evacuation of victims of the KKB atrocities in Kiwirok, Bintang Mountains District, Papua. The victims who were evacuated for the first time were Doctor Restu Pamanggi, Marselinus Ola Attanila, Manuel Abi, Martinus Deni Satya, Lukas Luji Patra, Siti Khodijah, Katriyanti Tandila, Kristina Sampe Tonapa, and Prada Ansyar from Infantry Battalion 403 who were injured during contact with KKB.

It is planned that in the second sorti there will be evacuation of the bodies of the health worker Gabriella Meilani and several refugees who are currently at the Pamtas Kiwirok Post.
