Papua Provincial Government distributes educational scholarships to 12 universities




The Papua Province Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) distributed educational scholarships to 1,436 Papuan Orang Asli (OAP) students who are currently studying at 12 universities in the City and Regency of Jayapura.

The Special Staff of the Governor of Papua for Special Autonomy, Triwarno Purnomo through the regional website, Sunday, said that the scholarships are aimed at helping OAP students who are hampered by financial problems in completing their studies.

"Many of our children have good academic abilities from poor families, so they have to try to find additional costs by working as laborers and so on," said Triwarno.

With such conditions, according to Triwarno, the government must be present to provide assistance, especially since this condition received special attention from the Governor of Papua Lukas Enembe. "The governor has taken a policy of providing scholarships for these thousands of underprivileged students," he said.

Meanwhile, the 12 universities that received the scholarship assistance were STT GIDI Papua 200 people (S1), STIPER Sentani 200 people (S1), STT Is Kijne Papua 188 people (S1), Indonesian Institute of Indonesian Cultural Arts 33 (S1), University of Muhammadiyah Jayapura 102 people (S1) and University of Ottow Geisler Papua 100 people (S1).

Furthermore, the University of Cenderawasih has 137 doctors (S1) and nine doctoral education staff for lecturers, 100 people from STIE Port Numbay (S1), USTJ 100 people (S1), STIH Jayapura 71 people (S1), STISP Jayapura 100 people (S1) and Uniyap Papua 100 people (S1).

Meanwhile, Head of BPSDM Papua Aryoko Rumaropen said that the local government has provided scholarships for indigenous Papuan students from 2012 to 2020, with a total of 1,884 students receiving, namely 1,156 domestic scholarship recipients with study locations in 19 cities in the country and 688 study students. abroad in 15 countries (160 universities).

"This policy is a strong commitment by the Governor of Papua Lukas Enembe to create superior Papuan human resources, with the hope of creating a better quality of life for the people in the future," he said.

The awarding of the scholarships was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, and the Chancellors and Heads of High Schools and the Director of Polytechnics in Jayapura.
