Papuan MSMEs are Expected to Take Advantage of the Momentum of PON PAPUA 2021

Papuan local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are expected to be able to take advantage of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) 2021, including through e-commerce. Deputy for Micro Business at the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, Eddy said that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, digital literacy and utilization supported economic improvement, especially the use of e-commerce which was soaring high.

"(Hopefully) all components can synergize to maximize PON as an arena for improving the local economy, especially Papua and more specifically for MSMEs," he said virtually, as stated in a press statement, Jakarta, Saturday 18 September 2021.

Various sectors of communication and information on a fairly large scale are considered to be used continuously, especially for MSMEs.

In a webinar regarding the Digitization of East Indonesia MSMEs in the Jayapura City Episode in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Information and Grab Indonesia, he said that this activity was in line with the three main agendas of the Ministry of Cooperative-UKM priority focus programs. Namely, informal to formal transformation, transformation utilizing digitalization and innovation by bringing MSMEs into local, national and global supply chains, and how to create modern cooperatives.

He further said that organizing XX PON is a concern for sportsmen, various associations and economic actors, especially in Papua. Therefore, it is hoped that together with Grab, we can revive the economy by encouraging the digitalization aspect.

Meanwhile, Director of East Indonesia Grab Indonesia Halim Wijaya explained that East Indonesia, especially Jayapura, was in the spotlight of its cultural, natural, and economic potential. Especially after being appointed as the host of PON Indonesia.

This is considered an important moment for local MSMEs to reach a wider market through the use of technology.

"Grab also ensures to continue to be present to help business actors to be ready to seize opportunities that come one of them through improving the skills of MSMEs in Jayapura," he said.
