PON Papua, Ministry of Transportation Sends Hundreds of Buses for Athlete Transportation




The XX National Sports Week (PON) in Papua or PON Papua will be held in October 2021. The Ministry of Transportation has also sent 428 buses and 51 cars and motorbikes by boat to Papua.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi sent all the vehicles on August 24, 2021 using the KM Dharma Kencana VII ship. The plan is that hundreds of these buses will arrive in early September 2021.

"All of them will be sent as a means of transportation for athletes and official teams consisting of three places, namely in Jayapura, Timika and Merauke," said Budi from a written statement, Monday, August 30, 2021.

Previously, the Ministry of Transportation had sent 112 buses and would provide 515 bus crew. A total of 261 bus crews are drivers who were recruited from Papuans as a form of empowerment of the indigenous people of Papua Province.
 
Of the 428 buses provided, 160 of them have been modified by making ramp on/off according to the right slope for the athletes of the Indonesian Paralympic Week (Peparnas).

After the implementation of PON is over, the bus will be used to serve pioneer transportation, urban which will be managed by DAMRI. "DAMRI in Papua has two functions, not only transporting people but also Papuans carrying goods using DAMRI to be brought to the market, so the economic function of DAMRI in Papua is very high," said Budi.

Not only PON Papua, the Ministry of Transportation also supports the construction of a pier and two buses to be operated at Lake Sentani, procurement and installation of road equipment, construction of the Jayapura City Entrop Type A Terminal.
