The Navy Sends KRI Up To Thousands Of Troops To Secure PON Papua
The Navy (TNI) has sent a number of medical personnel, soldiers and warships to support the 2021 National Sports Week (PON) in Papua. This was done in an effort to make the PON 2021 event a success in Papua.
"So yesterday we specifically sent 30 health workers and 20 doctors there. Rarely do we send 20 doctors to that one area, if it is not for the concern of the Indonesian Navy with the implementation of PON in Papua," said Chief of Naval Staff (KSAL) Admiral Yudo Margono at Kodamar, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, Friday (1/10/2021).
He explained that sending dozens of doctors and health workers was not only related to the implementation of PON, but also in an effort to accelerate the vaccination campaign in Papua. "Yesterday we carried out a vaccination campaign in Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency and Kierom Regency. We hope that with the implementation of the XX PON, the youth and committees there have been vaccinated," said Yudo.
As for security, Yudo explained that the Navy is more focused on security at sea. Thus it has closed a number of superior warships including soldiers.
"There we have prepared KRI Soeharso, which has been on standby for a long time. It can be used for medical evacuation, it can also be used for messing," said Yudo.
"In addition, there are other KRIs that are combatants, and our helicopters are also on standby there. So that if at any time there is a medical evacuation, our helicopters are ready to help," he continued.
He revealed that there are 1000 Navy troops who have been on standby to secure the implementation of the Papua PON. "There are around 600 from Lantamal X, not to mention from KRI Soeharso, then from other KRI Kombatan, of course we invite Danlantamal X to coordinate with the committee," he concluded.
