Update on PON XX Papua 2021: Momentum of Economic Growth on the Earth of Cendrawasih

The implementation of the XX 2021 National Sports Week (PON) is expected to be a momentum to grow the Papuan economy.

The XX Papua PON 2021 event is confirmed to be rolling in the near future.

At PON XX Papua 2021, there are 37 sports (sports) and 11 exhibition sports ready to be competed in four clusters of organization.

The four clusters for organizing the XX Papua PON 2021 include Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Mimika Regency and Merauke Regency.

The central Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) has released that the XX Papua PON 2021 will still be held as planned.

PON XX Papua 2021 will be held from 2 to 15 October.

The plan is that the XX Papua PON 2021 will officially be opened by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on October 2, 2021.

Then it was closed by Vice President (Wapres) Ma'ruf Amin on October 15, 2021.

Although it officially opened on October 2, several matches had already started before then, including Men's Softball, Water Polo and Baseball, Kite Flying, and Wushu.

Meanwhile, exhibition sports that were held before PON XX officially opened, such as Esports, Hapkido, Triathlon, Surfing Waves, Kick Boxing, and Kabaddi.

No exception, the rapid growth of the Papuan economy through Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) during the implementation of PON.

Then after the implementation of PON is expected to survive and grow in the future.

This was conveyed by the Assistant for the Economy and People's Welfare of the Regional Secretariat of Papua Province, Muhammad Musaad.

Muhammad Musaad said, currently some MSMEs have started to mushroom.

There are several young people selling coffee beside the road near the venue for the 2021 PON XX Papua competition.

"That way, we hope that more and more young people will have a life choice to become young entrepreneurs," said Muhammad Musaad as published on the papua.go.id page.

MSMEs are considered to be able to open up job opportunities with a wider reach in the earth of Cendrawasih.

"Because MSMEs are a wide field of cooperation and are open to anyone if they want to try."

Muhammad Musaad added that the MSMEs of the Earth of Cenderawasih are expected to rise at the momentum of the XX Papua PON 2021.

"However, this certainly requires the participation of the business community themselves. Because the government cannot only encourage it. But it requires a strong desire from the business actors themselves to develop their business," he continued.
