PON Papua Entrance To Change

Jayapura Regent Mathius Awoitauw, SE, MSi said that the implementation of the Papua National Sports Week (PON) is an entry point for change in Papua.

"I am optimistic, this PON is the entrance to bring change in Papua," said Mathius Awoitauw while talking to a number of PON guests in Yokiwa Village, Tuesday (5/10).

He said the implementation of PON in Papua so far is very safe. Then indigenous peoples are also involved in organizing PON in their own way. Starting from being involved in MSMEs including other things. No less important is how to guarantee security and public order during the implementation of this PON goes well. Therefore, he is optimistic that in the future a number of international standard venues in Jayapura Regency will be maximized in their utilization.

“It is important that they see conducive security, and the welcome of the community is also good. I think that new plans are now starting to develop, how the existing Sports will take advantage of the existing venues here,” he said.

In fact, he said, the Hoky Indonesia venue facility had informed him that it would use the Hoky outsider Papua venue in Bambar, Jayapura Regency at the Asian championship in February 2022. This is certainly a big opportunity to bring about big changes for Papua in the future.

"Perhaps for this outdoor Hoky Sport it will be held in Jayapura Regency for matches at the Asian level in 2022 later. This is the information that was conveyed by the central hoky board yesterday,” he explained.
