CHAIRMAN OF BEM: STUDENTS CAN SUBMIT ASPIRATIONS, BUT NOT GO TO THE STREET

The wing of the separatist organization in Papua, which is known to often carry out actions that harm public order, has targeted students as shields in carrying out their actions and propaganda.
The chairman of the Student Executive Board (BEM) of Cenderawasih University, Yops A. Itlay, said it was a concern for him. He considered that the main goal of students to study should be put aside by the presence of groups affiliated with separatists. (12/11)

“The main purpose of friends coming here is to learn so that they can become educated people, but it cannot be denied that students who are filled with young people are often used by many parties. Finally, the main goal of students to learn is sometimes forgotten, "

Yops Itlay, when confirmed, said that many students ended up having to fall for it because they were busy with separatist affairs and actions. He admitted this because once students were involved in the action, it would be difficult to get out and leave, because students often received threats.

“We as students must be careful in choosing, of course we already know which things are good and bad. If you have fallen, it will be difficult to get out, because there is a threat there. Even worst, bullying has happened to every student who refuses, they will be ostracized from the group,"

This is exacerbated by the condition of many students who come from outside the Jayapura area, so that there is no main control from the family. Although he does not limit the space for each student's self-expression in organizations, Yops emphasized that there are many other organizations that can be used to continue to develop their potential.

Yops Itlay is known to reject any KNPB actions that often act on behalf of students, he considers that students are only used for the interests and practical politics of separatist groups. Instead, he asked his fellow students to be wise in organizing, considering that the main goal of students is to learn.

“You can organize yourself, it's good to develop your potential. But what needs to be realized is to see what organization will be addressed. If you organize but are in conflict with the law and interfere with security, that is no longer true. In the end, it will harm yourself as well as others,” he said.
