Health Workers at PON XX, Demand Honor Payments

At least 780 health workers on duty during the implementation of PON XX in the Jayapura City Cluster and a number of personnel in Jayapura Regency demanded the PON Executive Board (PB) to immediately pay their honorariums.

The demands of these health workers were conveyed during a peaceful protest at the Autonomy Service Office, Kotaraja, Monday, November 29, 2021.

"We have worked optimally for the success of PON XX in Papua. This is our obligation. But our promised rights have not been paid yet,” said the coordinator of the peaceful demonstration, Hein Yopi Olua, head of the Skouw Health Center, to reporters on the sidelines of the peaceful demonstration.

According to Hein Yopi Olua, all requirements for financial administration have been completed. “Even three times, we were asked to enter an account number and other requirements. The account number that we handed over was also used to pay salaries. We are afraid that other parties will take advantage of our account number. So we came to PB PON to ask for our Honors to be paid immediately,” said Hein Yopi Olua.

It was also explained that not all health workers on duty during the implementation of PON XX were not all employees. "There is an honorary one. For that, we ask that PB PON immediately pay our rights, "he said.

According to Hein Yopi Olua, since the closing of the PON until now, there has been no explanation from the PB PON. In fact, before the PON, the PB PON through the Head of the Health Service asked to send health workers to work during the PON. The names of the personnel sent are also accompanied by the requested requirements. "We have fulfilled all the duties and requirements. But why are our rights not paid?” Ask Hein Yopi Olua.

Apart from health workers, journalists who are members of the Media Center as well as photographers also demand their salaries which have not been paid by PB PON XX. The demand was conveyed through a letter sent to the Chairman of PB PON XX, Yunus Wonda.

As reported by the New Guinea Courier (NGK), that – on Monday, November 29, 2021, journalists covering PON XX who are members of the Media Center (Crew Media Center) and also photographers have sent a letter to the Daily Chair of PB PON XX, because or their rights have not been paid.

In the letter dated November 28, it was stated that as professionals in the field of Media and Photographers used by PB PON during the implementation of PON XX Papua in 2021, they had carried out their duties well and in accordance with their assigned duties, from September 22 to October 15, 2021.

“However, 43 days since the PON was officially closed by the Vice President, the payment promises that have been conveyed to us several times have always been not kept. The reasons are preposterous, such as still in the filing process, the second request for funds until the latest news obtained that the PB PON cash is empty and the process of submitting it to the Provincial Government," said the reporters' letters to Yunus Wonda, Chairman of PB PON XX.
