SEPARATIST GROUPS KEY FACTORS RESTORING PROGRESS IN PAPUA
Separatist groups in Papua in their every action always show savagery, even the actions carried out are no exception targeting civilians, both immigrants and indigenous Papuans themselves. The existence of a separatist group in Intan Jaya Regency recently has caused quite a complex problem.
According to a resident of Sugapa, Intan Jaya, Alex Sondegau said that apart from requiring residents to evacuate to places that were deemed safe, according to him, prolonged conflicts would still occur. He thought it would disrupt the lives of residents.
“The attack that was carried out yesterday has scared the people, we have to evacuate. But what we have to think about now is how our lives can return to normal again."
Sondegau added that the existence of a separatist group that has disturbed the peace cannot be considered as defending the rights of the Papuan people.
“If you really defend the rights of Papuans, come here and see what happens. What do we need, try to fulfill it. These separatist groups do not know the exact direction and purpose for carrying out attacks. Indeed, the source of the conflict comes from them, "
Frans Korwa in a statement said that the presence of separatist groups in Papua is one of the most important inhibiting factors for progress and prosperity in Papua. Separatist groups, according to him, still have backward thinking.
“The existence of separatist groups is the main concern regarding the difficulties in developing Papua. Because it will be useless if the government makes efforts to raise welfare but there are still separatist movements. They will continue to refuse even with unreasonable reasons."
Various cases of violence that have given birth to humanitarian tragedies have deeply imprinted on the hearts of Papuans. Based on research conducted by Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Yogyakarta, from 2010 to 2020 there have been 204 cases of violence in the provinces of Papua and West Papua.
Ironically, more than half of the cases of violence are the perpetrators of separatist groups who incidentally are indigenous Papuans. It is based on fieldwork and local media research.
The UGM team noted that acts of violence involving separatist groups reached 118 cases. As for 42 cases were carried out by residents, 28 cases by the TNI-Polri, and 16 cases by unknown persons. The number of victims was at least 1,869 people, and 356 died, consisting of 46 TNI soldiers, 34 Polri soldiers, 26 KKB members and other civilians.
