BI Papua prepares Rp5.2 trillion in cash for Christmas and New Year
The Bank Indonesia Representative Office (KPwBI) Papua is currently preparing Rp 5.29 trillion in currency to meet needs during Christmas and New Year 2021.
The currency provided is of various types of denominations, the amount of which has increased by around three percent compared to the same period in 2020 which was recorded at Rp. 5.12 trillion.
Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office (KPwBI) Papua Naek Tigor Sinaga in Jayapura, Tuesday said, based on the results of coordination with the Banks, the need for Christmas 2021 and New Year 2022 is estimated at Rp 4.4 trillion with a demand for large denominations (UPB) of Rp 4 .33 trillion and small denominations (UPK) of Rp. 0.07 trillion.
The demand for these needs increased by 5 percent when compared to the realization in 2020 of Rp. 4.19 trillion.
This need has also taken into account the restrictions on PPKM level three which will be implemented from 24 December 2021 to 2 January 2022.
KPwBI Papua also coordinates intensively and regularly with banks in Jayapura and banks in seven regions that are cash deposits so that cash services to the public can be easier and faster in obtaining cash in accordance with the amount, denomination and conditions fit for circulation, especially for Christmas and Christmas needs. New Year.
"Fulfillment of cash needs, the volume of bank withdrawals and deposits to Bank Indonesia grew positively in line with the growth of money in circulation (UYD)," said Sinaga.
He added that the amount of money that had been distributed to banks in Papua until November was Rp. 8.6 trillion, an increase of 12 percent from 2020 which was only Rp. 7.7 trillion.
The reason for the increase is because Papua will host the 2021 PON and Peparnas.
Bank Indonesia also urges the public not to spend or transact money that is not fit for circulation (UTLE) and exchange it or deposit the UTLE at the nearest bank.
BI reminded residents to always be vigilant and careful in transacting using money and to always be careful and thorough with the authenticity of rupiah currency by seeing, touching and looking at it (3D).
"Besides that, it also treats and cares for the rupiah properly through the five (5) DON'Ts, namely do not cross out, squeeze, staple, moisten and do not fold and use non-cash payment instruments (QRIS)," hoped Naek Sinaga.
