OKSIBIL HIGH SCHOOL BURNING, EDUCATION FACTORS CONSIDERED A THREAT

The separatist group again carried out a brutal action by burning the high school complex in the Bintang Mountains Regency. According to testimonies from local residents, the action carried out by the Lamek Taplo group occurred on December 5, 2021 in the early hours of the morning.

Yunus Kalakmabin as a community leader in the Bintang Mountains Regency in his statement stated that the arson of SMA 1 Oksibil was deliberately carried out by a separatist group. According to him, progress in education is one of the threat factors that will erode the separatist movement.

"Because education will shape one's personality, the higher the education, the more mature one's way of thinking will be. That's why the separatists are afraid, they don't want the people in the Bintang Mountains to be smart people," said Yunus. (6/12)

Yunus added that if more and more Papuans were aware of education, separatism would no longer get attention.

"There are many examples in the outside world, those who know the importance of education will no longer want to interfere with separatist actions. They prefer to develop what they have, because separatism is not useful,"

Yunus also explained that the Lamek Taplo group is one of the most brutal separatist groups in Papua. In carrying out their actions, Yunus said that the group never cared about human rights. He mentioned this statement after the unfortunate incident experienced by health workers in the Kiwirok District.

“Just yesterday we were all angry because there was an attack in Kiwirok, they are indeed the most brutal group, they never know what human rights are like. Even though Lamek Taplo himself always says that he is a human rights defender, that's nonsense,"

Yunus then said that the people in the Bintang Mountains already felt uncomfortable seeing the separatist actions that had targeted urban areas. he emphasized that the separatist action had met with opposition from a number of people in the Bintang Mountains, especially in the Oksibil District.
