Yap Thiam Hien Winner Urges KPK to Investigate Corruption in Papua
The recipient of the Human Rights award, Yap Thiam Hien in 2009, Father Yohanes Jonga asked the KPK to thoroughly investigate a number of corruptions in Papua.
One of the budgets that must be investigated is the use of PON XX Papua and Otsus funds.
"KPK must thoroughly investigate the use of XX PON funds. There is no need to worry about auditing the entire use of the budget, so that Jakarta and Papua do not suspect each other, so that PON volunteers do not become victims, because until now their rights have not been paid," explained Jonga, who is known to be vocal in managing human rights in Papua, when met in Jayapura, Tuesday (8/12).
Moreover, the Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani Indrawati once revealed the amount of PON funds from 2018-2021, when the total reached approximately Rp. 10.431 trillion.
“I think the Papuan people already know. Even thousands of volunteers condemned the promises made by the PON committee. Yes, they are demanding the rights promised by the committee," he said.

So, he said, before having a further impact, regarding the use of PON funds should be investigated by the authorities. "If the police don't move, I think the center (Jakarta), whether the Attorney General's Office, BPK, and others will investigate this," he continued.
He suspects that the protracted handling of corruption in Papua has given rise to indications of the involvement of law enforcement officers in the vortex of corruption.
"For example, in Keerom Regency, it is known that there is corruption in the construction of the road from Defarmo to Towe Hitam worth billions, the funny thing is, after arriving at the prosecutor's office, the examination process was even silent (stagnated)," he explained.
Due to the actions of corruptors, the suffering of the people is increasing. "In the end it became a problem that piled up, and caused movement everywhere."
Regarding the submission of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, in mid-2021, that the alleged corruption of the Special Autonomy funds was already under investigation, Father John Djonga asked that this was not just a promise.
"What was promised by Mahfud MD must be moved together. We, as church leaders, youths, are ready to support what has been conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs," he said.
He invited various parties to participate in urging the government to uncover 10 major corruption cases in Papua that Mahfud MD had announced. "Don't let the 10 major corruption cases be kept by the state. This is dangerous for national unity," he said.
Allegations of budget embezzlement in Papua are said to be open. Based on a search by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), it was found that waste and ineffectiveness in the use of a fantastic budget were found. In addition, there are also mark ups or price inflations in the procurement of a number of public facilities in the easternmost province of Indonesia.
