53 Papuan KKB Members Surrender and 27 Arrested, Nemangkawi Task Force Operations Immediately Stopped

The Nemangkawi Task Force, which is tasked with maintaining security in the Papua region, has succeeded in awakening a number of members of the separatist KKB (Armed Criminal Group).

It was recorded that there were 53 Papuan KKB members who had surrendered and returned to the NKRI while the Nemangkawi Task Force was carrying out its duties.

In addition, 27 members of the KKB were also arrested in Operation Nemangkawi Papua stages I and II.

Now, the operation of the Nemangkawi Task Force is coming to an end.

The task force of the Task Force in charge of hunting for Papuan KKB will end in a matter of days, namely on January 25, 2021.

Launching from ANTARA, the National Police has extended the Nemangkawi Task Force Operation period until January 25, 2022, following the end of the second phase of operation on December 31, 2021.

"The plan is to extend it until January 25, 2022, today the sprint has been issued," said the Head of the Public Information Section (Kabagpenum) of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Brigadier General Pol Ahmad Ramadhan in Jakarta, Monday.

According to Ramadhan, the extension of the Nemangkawi Task Force Operation period to January 25 was based on the results of the analysis and evaluation (anev) conducted by the Indonesian National Police and the TNI before the operation period ended in December 2021.

"Later on, Operation Nemangkawi will become a regional operation under the command of the Papuan Police," said Ramadhan.

In a late 2021 release, the National Police had carried out 276 police operations including six centralized operations and 270 regional operations.

Two important operations include Operation Nemangkawi Papua stages I and II.

From this operation, 27 people who are members of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) have been arrested.

In addition, the National Police also succeeded in bringing 53 members and sympathizers of the Papuan KKB to surrender to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

The National Police conduct operations with an approach that focuses on a more persuasive humanist court or "soft opproach" in Papua, through the Bimas Noken program, the Tifa program or traditional understanding, and the Kaswari program.

In these programs, members of the National Police cooperate with relevant ministries to help provide counseling and help improve the welfare of the Papuan people.

Beware of KKB Papua

Meanwhile, the Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri asked the public to be vigilant so as not to become victims of the brutality of the Papuan KKB.

In fact, Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri suggested that civilians first report to members of the National Police before going to gardening.

This warning from the Papuan Police Chief follows the victim of being abused by an unknown person (OTK) while gardening.

"Never be careless, including when going to the garden, because it can be life-threatening, as happened to Yatiman Hadi (52) in Dekai who died after being mistreated by an unknown person (OTK) while gardening," said Inspector General Pol. Mathius Fakhiri in Jayapura, launched from ANTARA, Thursday (30/12/2021).

If necessary, said the Kapolda, residents would notify members of the National Police at the Resort Police or Polsek before gardening.

So that the police can inform whether the area is safe or not.
 
He admitted that there are indeed several areas in Papua that are categorized as vulnerable, be it from armed groups (KKB) or criminals, including in Yahukimo Regency.

Until now, said the Papuan Police Chief, the police are still conducting investigations related to the perpetrators of the persecution that killed civilians in Dekai.

"It is not yet certain whether the perpetrators of the Papuan KKB or not because the data collected is still minimal," said Fakhiri when asked about the case of mistreatment of Yatimin who suffered injuries while going to the garden, around Kali Brasa, Dekai District.

From the report received, after being stabbed and injured in the head, the victim called his colleague. The victim told the condition and the location where he was so that his friend came and took him home.

Upon arrival, the victim was taken to the hospital. However, after receiving treatment, Yatimin's life could not be saved.

He also explained that the victim's body was evacuated to Surabaya on Saturday (25/12/2021) to be buried in his hometown in Jember, East Java.
 
When asked which areas were vulnerable, the Kapolda said apart from Yahukimo, there were several areas of the Bintang Mountains, Puncak, Intan Jaya, and Nduga.

"Stay alert if you go to areas that are far from settlements and prone to crime," said the Papuan Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Fakhiri.
